Dermatology residency, Chief Resident
Dr. Charity Foster McConnell joined Franklin Dermatology Group in August of 2001. She became the first partner to join the founders of the practice, Drs. Dana and Paul Latour, in 2003.
She is a native Tennessean who grew up in Lexington, a small West Tennessee town. As an undergraduate, she attended Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1992 with a B.S. in Molecular Biology.
Dr. McConnell met her future husband, Bill McConnell, while in college at Vanderbilt and they married in 1995. Subsequently, she and Bill moved around during her medical training. She graduated medical school from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. McConnell was an internal medicine resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for two years from 1996-1998, at which point she realized that her true “calling” was dermatology.
In order to realize that “calling”, she and her husband moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for her to receive her dermatology residency training at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (Bowman Gray Campus) from 1998-2001.
Dr. McConnell enjoys all aspects of dermatology, including medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She prides herself on thorough, high-quality care for patients of all ages. In addition, her practice philosophy is to make every patient feel important and that their voices are being heard.
Dr. McConnell is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She also enjoys being a member in several medical and professional organizations, including the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Nashville Dermatology Society, Tennessee Women in Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the Tennessee Medical Association.
Out of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, her son, Foster, and her sweet Goldendoodle, Rose, as well as cooking and traveling.
Dr. Karen Chen Broussard joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2015. She is originally from Cedarburg, Wisconsin. As an undergraduate at Yale University, Dr. Broussard was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society and graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Broussard then attended medical school at Vanderbilt University where she conducted clinical research in numerous fields of study, including dermatology. Dr. Broussard completed a one-year internship in Internal Medicine at Emory University prior to her residency training in Dermatology at Vanderbilt University where she served as Chief Resident in her final year.
Dr. Broussard is passionate about the field of dermatology and values establishing a close doctor-patient relationship in order to provide the highest quality care for her patients. She practices medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Broussard is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She is also a member of the Nashville Dermatology Society, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Broussard resides in Franklin with her husband and their two children. She enjoys reading, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Lesley Littrell Starnes joined Franklin Dermatology Group in August of 2017. Originally from Waverly, Dr. Starnes was born and raised in Middle Tennessee. As an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Dr. Starnes was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2006. She then attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. In her third year, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and graduated summa cum laude in 2010 with the Faculty Medal for Highest Academic Achievement.
Dr. Starnes completed a one-year internship in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Then, she remained to complete her three-year dermatology residency, serving as Chief Resident in her final year. After practicing with the Jackson Clinic in Jackson, Tennessee, for three years, Dr. Starnes moved home to Middle Tennessee and joined Franklin Dermatology Group.
Dr. Starnes is grateful for the opportunity to serve her community and home state through her calling in medicine and passion for dermatology. She enjoys caring for patients of all ages and practicing the full spectrum of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Starnes strives to provide compassionate, effective, patient-centered care focusing on patient education and quality of life.
Dr. Starnes is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She also enjoys membership in the Nashville Dermatology Society, Tennessee Dermatology Society, and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Starnes resides in Brentwood with her husband and their three children. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, hiking, traveling, and cheering on the Volunteers. Go Big Orange!
Dermatology Residency, Chief Resident
Dr. Alexandra Navarro joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2020. She is a native of Franklin, TN and she attended Vanderbilt University graduating with a B.E. in Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering.
During her undergraduate career, she was awarded the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholar award and was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. Dr. Navarro attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. During this time, she published research concerning skin conditions in both adults and children.
She completed an internal medicine internship at Emory University before returning to Nashville for her dermatology residency at Vanderbilt University. She served as Chief Resident during her final year.
Dr. Navarro has a strong commitment to the improvement in the quality of life of her patients with an emphasis on patient-centered care. She is a skilled medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologist and patients appreciate her caring and kind demeanor. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Navarro is skilled in many state-of-the-art procedures, including platelet-rich plasma for hair regrowth, laser resurfacing, and microneedling with radio frequency. Her cosmetic approach focuses on natural results that rejuvenate patients’ appearance. She offers a wide portfolio of injectable toxins and fillers to help patients achieve their desired outcomes.
Dr. Navarro enjoys cooking for family and friends, running at middle Tennessee’s numerous beautiful parks, and exploring the inventive Nashville food scene with her husband, Gilberto.
Chief Resident, Gold Humanism Honor Society
Dr. Rachael S. Bergman joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2021. She hails from Houston, TX but moved to Canton, GA during childhood. She attended Vanderbilt University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and minor in Medicine, Health, and Society.
Dr. Bergman attended Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA. She was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, was awarded the Glasgow-Rubin Citation for Academic Achievement, and was awarded the Distinction in Service to the Community for bringing hands-on science projects to middle school students to encourage a love of science and provide mentorship. During this time, she also spent a summer contributing to research on immunotherapy for melanoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Bergman completed her preliminary year in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and dermatology residency at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, TX, where she served as chief resident during her final year and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Dr. Bergman’s interests include medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. In her role at Franklin Dermatology Group, she aims to provide thoughtful and up-to-date care for a wide variety of dermatological issues, from skin cancer to inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. She offers her patients education and management options and aims to provide the most effective and safest care. Dr. Bergman is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Bergman resides in Nashville with her husband, T.J., and chiweenie, Lula Mae. She enjoys cooking and exploring new restaurants, hiking and kayaking, and playing tennis
Dr. William Stebbins joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2022. He is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Stebbins graduated magna cum laude from Williams College with a B.A. in Economics. He is a board-certified dermatologist and board-certified/fellowship-trained Mohs/dermatologic surgeon. His areas of expertise include the comprehensive treatment of skin cancer, Mohs micrographic surgery, advanced surgical reconstruction, as well as cosmetic dermatology procedures. He has performed over 12,000 Mohs surgeries. Above all, Dr. Stebbins enjoys providing thoughtful patient-centered care to ensure patients have the best possible surgical and cosmetic outcomes.
From 2010-2022, Dr. Stebbins served as an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During that time, he was a full-time Mohs surgeon, the Associate Director of the Mohs Surgery Fellowship, and the Director of Cosmetic Dermatology. He has been the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award for the Department of Dermatology multiple times during his tenure.
The top graduate in his class at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, Dr. Stebbins completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and graduated from the Dermatology Residency at Harvard Medical School. He then completed a Mohs Surgery and Procedural Dermatology Fellowship at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana with Dr. C. William Hanke.
Dr. Stebbins has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters related to surgical and cosmetic dermatology. He continues to lecture about surgical and cosmetic dermatology at national and international dermatology conferences.
Dr. Stebbins is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and is a member of the Tennessee Dermatology Society.
Dr. Stebbins resides in Nashville with his wife Jenn (also a dermatologist) and their dog Poppy. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, listening to live music, and spending time with his family and friends.
Nikki Wood joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2015. A native of West Texas, Nikki grew up in a small farming community. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Texas Tech University, she received her master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2000. While there, she was awarded “Most Outstanding Student” in her specialty program.
Nikki is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and has received specialty training in medical dermatology, laser surgery, and cosmetic injections of neurotoxins and fillers. She is interested in all aspects of dermatology and especially enjoys helping others to feel good about their skin.
Nikki resides in Franklin TN. Her favorite activities are spending time with her daughter, reading and traveling.
Emily Stewart joined Franklin Dermatology Group in October 2009. Born and raised in Somerset, Kentucky, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Nursing from the University of Kentucky in 2001.
After graduation, Emily relocated to Nashville and gained experience as a cardiac nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Wanting to further her education, Emily decided to attend the family nurse practitioner program at Belmont University. She graduated with honors in 2005, and became a board certified family nurse practitioner, and has received specialty training in medical dermatology, laser surgery, and cosmetic injections of neurotoxins and fillers. She enjoys all aspects of medical and cosmetic dermatology. After having her first child, who suffers from eczema, Emily became very interested in the field of Dermatology. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Tennessee Nurses Association, and the Dermatology Nurses Association’s Nurse Practitioner Society.
Emily resides in Brentwood with her husband, Brent, who manages his family-owned lumber business. They have two daughters, Gretta-Kate and Temple and a dog, Woody. Away from work she enjoys supporting Gretta-Kate in soccer and basketball and Temple in competitive dance, family and friends, traveling and UK sports! Go Cats!”
Lissa Rhodes joined Franklin Dermatology Group in April 2017. Although born in New Orleans, LA, Lissa moved to Franklin, TN at a young age and considers herself a native.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Middle Tennessee State University, then gained experience as a registered nurse in the emergency department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the Master of Science in Nursing program at Belmont University and is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Lissa has always had a strong interest in dermatology and first joined Franklin Dermatology Group as a nurse while closely training alongside the practice’s senior providers. She values communication and the patient-provider relationship and is committed to compassionate and effective dermatologic care.
Lissa resides in Thompson’s Station with her husband, Chris, and their two children. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, boating on Old Hickory Lake, traveling, and reading.
A native of Nashville, Sunny Birdsong started her career with Franklin Dermatology Group in 2001 as a massage therapist and soon expanded her skill set to become a medical aesthetician. Training with our former practice owners Dr. Paul and Dr. Dana Latour and current practice owner Dr. Charity McConnell she made aesthetics her first priority. Sunny honed her skills to service a wide range of cosmetic and acne clients for over 19 years.
Working in the field of medical aesthetics Sunny has learned to adapt the tried and true techniques while staying up to date on new and trend setting services to provide a comprehensive experience. “Providing excellent care and seeing clients happy and excited to return is my number one goal. Experience is my number one qualification and I use the knowledge I’ve gained to educate and serve my clients so they can make smart decisions when they are here and at home.”
Married to her high school sweetheart for almost 20 years Sunny and her husband share their home with two feisty French bulldogs Piper and James in Spring Hill.
Chrissy was born and raised in California and in 2017 she moved to Tennessee. She, her husband, and her daughter are proud to call Middle Tennessee home.
Growing up she dealt with skin issues herself and eventually felt a calling to help people with their skin problems. She decided to pursue her dream at AVEDA to become an aesthetician to help clients with this! After working in the spa industry for several years, she decided she was ready to enter the medical setting and really make a difference in patient’s lives.
Her goal is to make people feel comfortable in their own skin and to help them achieve their desired results by providing the best skin care advice/treatment possible. Chrissy loves Bravo TV, being a mom, kayaking and all animals, especially her rescue pigs: Brandy, Moonshine, and Fancy!
Emily joined Franklin Dermatology Group more than a decade ago and has worked her way from quite literally the bottom to the top! She has gained a wealth of knowledge and has become an indispensable part of Franklin Dermatology Group. She’s the person behind the scenes that keeps Franklin Dermatology Group and the Aesthetic Center of Franklin Dermatology Group running like a well-oiled machine. She is our problem fixer, is passionate and driven when it comes to all things FDG, and truly devotes herself to the job and our employees.
