Sculptra: Facial Rejuvenation and Collagen Restoration

Sculptra is a remarkable FDA-approved injectable that works with your body to naturally stimulate collagen production and restore volume to diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

How Sculptra Works

As we age, we lose 1% of our collagen. By age 45, collagen loss is approximately 25%. Sculptra’s collagen stimulator, poly-L-lactic (PLLA), works in the deep layer of the skin to restore the skin’s structure. As the body gradually and naturally absorbs the PLLA microparticles, collagen is produced, and volume is restored. Sculptra can be used to correct hallowed-out temples and volume loss in the cheeks and soften nasolabial folds and marionette lines in the lower face.

Sculptra Results

Sculptra works subtly, improving facial areas gradually without making it look like you’ve had work done. Three (3) injection appointments are needed over three to four months to achieve full results. Results are typically noted within three (3) months and will last up to two years. Sculptra treatments last longer because they stimulate your own cells to produce the body’s natural filler, collagen, and are less maintenance than hyaluronic acid fillers. Another perk of Sculptra treatment is the “Sculptra glow.” In a recent clinical study, 90% of patients reported glowing, tightened, and firmer skin two (2) years after treatment.

Preparing For Your Sculptra Appointment

Avoid routine dental cleaning or dental procedures for two weeks before and after your treatment. Alert our office if you experience any skin or dental infections in the month before your appointment.

Avoid vaccines or boosters within 30 days of Sculptra treatment. Unless prescribed by a physician, avoid taking the following medications 7-10 days before your appointment: aspirin, Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil), and naproxen (Aleve), fish oil or omega-3 fatty acids, St. John’s Wart, vitamin E, ginger, Gingko Biloba, ginseng, and garlic. These drugs and herbs may cause excessive bleeding or bruising.

Avoid or minimize consumption of alcohol for three (3) days before your appointment, as this may also contribute to bruising. Let your provider know if you have a history of autoimmune conditions or cold sores, as there may be precautions to take or a contraindication to treatment.

What To Expect After Sculptra Treatment

After treatment, you will massage the treated areas vigorously for five (5) minutes, five (5) times a day, for five (5) days. Self-massaging ensures the PLLA is fully distributed. Ice packs may be used during the first 24 hours as needed. Aspirin and NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve) should be avoided for the first few days after treatment. Tylenol may be taken for any discomfort as needed. Avoid exercise and makeup for 24 hours after treatment. Mild redness, swelling, and bruising are possible after treatment. Avoid other cosmetic facial treatments and procedures for two (2) weeks after Sculptra.
