MedSpa vs Day Spa – What’s the Difference?
Have you ever wondered the difference between a Medspa (also known as a medical spa) and a day spa? While there is some overlap in
Young healthy skin renews itself every five to six weeks through a process called cell turnover. During the natural process of aging, cell turnover slows down, causing a thick buildup of dead skin cells on the surface. This gives your skin an uneven texture and color. Common signs of damaged skin cells are wrinkles, brown spots (that includes freckles), age spots and a general dullness of the complexion. Applying chemical skin peels can help battle the signs of aging by removing the buildup of dead skin cells and improving the natural process of cell turnover.
A chemical skin peel can help to avoid the increased dullness inherent in aging skin. Deciding if a chemical skin peel is right for you can be somewhat confusing. Consult our aestheticians to get a better understanding of how to best meet your individual goals. Usually, most chemical skin peels will cause a mild stinging to a more significant burning sensation; redness can be minimal to extreme and down time (peeling) may be seen in more aggressive chemical skin peels. We offer a wide variety of chemical skin peels detailed here to suit every need in the process of aging.
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure to gently exfoliate dead skin cells from your face, remove the vellus hair (peach fuzz), and stimulate cellular turnover leaving your skin brighter and smoother. Dermaplaning is most often done before chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or facials for better product penetration. Another added benefit is make-up will go on more evenly. Dermaplaning does not make hair grow back thicker or darker.
We offer varying strengths of these wonderful chemical skin peels to lessen the appearance of subtle aging and very fine lines and give your skin an instant glow. Glycolic acid helps to improve acne and light hyperpigmentation as well. Safe to use during pregnancy and while breast feeding.
Often considered the most effective acid for oily and acne-prone complexions, this chemical skin peel has a high concentration of salicylic acid. This is a highly recommended skin peel because of its ability to be antibacterial as well as being anti-inflammatory.
Mild to Aggressive. Our signature peel uses a mixture of alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids to help improve skin tone and texture, lessen fine lines and decrease pigment caused by sun damage, melasma and acne. Even after one peel, you will see improvement but for more dramatic results a series of peels is recommended. Safe for all skin types.
The Obagi Blue Peel is a one- to four-step application of a blue solution mixed with Trichioracetic Acid (TCA). These applications will lead to the removal of thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin, allowing the skin’s own clarity and tightness to resurface. For optimum results, the Obagi NuDerm skin care system is required prior to the treatment. Consultation required.
TCA (Trichioracetic Acid) peels are highly effective in promoting skin smoothness and vitality. They also improve superficial discoloration and eliminate fine lines. These medium depth skin peels, from 20% to 25%, are very aggressive for the reduction of fine lines, uneven pigmentation and skin smoothing.
These skin peels are recommended by dermatologists for impressive skin rejuvenation. To achieve the best results, you should use skin care products before your skin peel and anticipate that two or more peels may be needed at three-month intervals. The effect of a medium-depth skin peel may dissipate over six months to a year, but improvement will persist if you adhere to a skin care program.
Skin preparation may be achieved by applying retin-A, glycolic acid and bleaching agents daily for four to six weeks prior to the peel. Retin-A will not only help to shed layers of superficial dead skin, it will also stimulate your skin to regenerate and heal more quickly. The procedure usually takes approximately 60 minutes and mild discomfort can be controlled by the application of cooling towels. There will be no discomfort following the procedure.
The skin will initially appear red, and within a few days the skin will start to turn dark and become stiff. The more pigmentation the skin has the darker it will turn. The skin will then crack and peel, however there will be no open wounds or scabs. Once the old skin has been sloughed off, the new skin will emerge bright pink and flushed – exposing the new, healthy you!
